Here is the second profile in our series on the Parent Council Executive Committee. Hilary is a regular fixture at all things Earl Haig – if you haven’t met her yet chances are you will soon! Till then, read more about her in this profile piece written in her own words….
My name is… Hilary Gray
I joined the Earl Haig School Council in… 2009 and started as Co-Secretary
On the Council I am responsible for… being Past-Chair, having already held the position of Chair for 3 years. I help advise new parents on Council and act as a support for the current Chair.
One thing people don’t know about me is… I play women’s shinny hockey every Tuesday night at Monarch Park!
One thing I love about being an Earl Haig parent is… being part of an amazing community. I appreciate spending time with my kids, their friends, and the wonderful parents and Earl Haig staff who add to “The Village” feel of our neighbourhood.
My advice to new parents at the school is… don’t be shy. The Earl Haig community is full of terrific folks that can support you and your children in so many ways. If you’re not sure about something, just ask. Volunteer in the school or on a field trip, if you can. Your kids will love to see you there!
Our family’s favorite neighborhood spot is… Monarch Park!
One thing I’ve done as an Earl Haig School Council member that makes me proud is… while acting as Council Chair, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with so many great children, parents and staff at the school. I’ve enjoyed carrying on traditions such as the pumpkin patch, cultural pot luck, the spring festival, and helping initiate the adult Hullabaloo and the welcome back coffee morning.
The thing I would most like to see our Council achieve this year is… maintaining enthusiasm for all of the community building events that help define our school; and if we can raise a little money along the way while doing so, all the better!
My final word… get involved. You won’t regret it and your kids will love it!
