Student nutrition programs (SNPs) also receive partial government funding and follow guidelines consistent with Canada’s Food Guide to meet funding criteria. For each meal, students are offered 3 food groups – vegetable and/or fruit, a protein food and a whole grain food. SNPs follow Toronto Public Health Food Safety Requirements for the preparation, storage and serving of food and TDSB policies and procedures (eg, Nutrition Foundation, Equity, Parent and Community Involvement, Anaphylaxis). Earl Haig works hard to offer complete, nutritious meals each day that follow SNP nutrition guidelines and make meals accessible to all students. This is a change from the past when students were given options, often not choosing food from all 4 food groups.
