Deck the Halls with Poison Ivy! ‘Tis the season to be slimy!

Let’s start this week’s post with a fundraising report back to the community, shall we?

childrens-magazinesFirst up – QSP: A big thank you to all parents, students, Earl Haig staff and family and friends who made the fundraiser such a success. Over $8500 was raised which means approximately $2500 in profit for the school.  Enjoy your new magazines! And thank you for donating your older magazines for reuse in the classroom.  Thanks to Tracy for coordinating this massive undertaking and Andria for keeping the bulletin board so beautiful.

Pumpkin Patch: A beautiful crisp morning, a kindergarten yard filled with pumpkins, 1622609_854528481259161_937350264095523692_nand two tables of baked goods and honey equals a recipe for Fall Fun. 200 pumpkins were delivered in the wee hours of the morning, and all were gone by 10:00 that morning. Amazing!  Thank you to everyone who bought a pumpkin or purchased baked goods and to those who volunteered their time to help out with pumpkin unloading,  sales and clean up.


Money, Money Money:
VolunteersThese parent volunteers and the School Council worked hard to raise a record breaking amount of over $1000 through the Pumpkin Patch. This money, coupled with the money raised from QSP, will go towards funding Scientists in the Schools for all grade levels, along with some much needed gym improvements.  We cannot say it enough: thank you to every parent, student, staff member, friend and family member of Earl Haig for your continued generosity.

Lost and Found: The Lost and Found bin in the front hallway is already bulging with content.  Please come and claim your missing gear.

Halloween Parade: the forecast is calling for snow, all the better for all the mini Elsas and Annas to recreate Frozen as they parade on the track at 9:40. We would love to see your photos of the parade! Email the school council, tweet @earlhaigschoolcouncil or post to our Facebook page.

Scare Away Hunger: the Me to We group is accepting non perishable food items for Centre 55.  Donations can be placed in a bin by the office.

Hullabaloo Fundraiser:
November 7 @ 7:30 in the Royal Canadian Legion on Coxwell. The bid items are extraordinary.  Activities with the teachers for a few lucky students, tickets to the Shaw Festival, 4 hours of housecleaning services (hello!), Maple Leaf tickets, and golf clubs are just a few items up for bid!

Tickets are up for sale in the schoolyard before school – look for school council chair Hilary Gray or Samantha Robinson in the yard at pick up or drop off.  Next week, tickets will be up for sale during daycare drop off (school front lobby) from 7:30am until the bell rings. Need more options? You can always email Hilary directly at  hmckgray@gmail.com with your ticket order or live on the edge and buy them at the door.

Please note this evening is geared towards adults. It is adult entertainment, but not that kind of adult entertainment. Spooky Business

Pumpkin Patch 2013This is it folks. Pumpkins Pumpkins. Get your Pumpkins!
This great event is anticipated by students in all grades. You won’t even recognize the Kindergarden playground it will be so full of pumpkins.
Buy a pumpkin in the morning and pick it up after school.
Buy some fresh baked muffins and be the most-loved person in your office.
Pumpkins and baked goods go on sale at 7:30 am.
Hullabaloo tickets will also be on sale at the bake sale table.

Congratulations Cross Country Runners! 

Cross Country Hug Seventeen students went on to participate in the Cross Country finals at Ashbridge’s Bay on Monday, October 20th.  Honourable mention goes out to two of our Grade 3 students; Ingrid placed 14th and Ethan placed 3rd! Congratulations to all participants, parents and teachers! Way to go Eagles!  Over 100 students came out every morning to practice and run over the last few weeks. Thank you to the parents and teachers who supported them.  We had a fabulous showing and are very proud of all of our students.

Halloween Parade
Get a couple of wears out of that Spiderman or Elsa costume. On Friday, October 31st, we will be having our annual Halloween Parade at 9:40am outside on the track. Children are encouraged to wear their favourite costume.  Classes will be invited to the gym for a Halloween Dance!  The `Me to We’ group would like to “Scare Away Hunger” by collecting non-perishable food items for the local food bank.  Food donations will be accepted at the front of the school and go towards Community Centre 55.

Lunch with Ms. Collins and Ms. Vlachos for you child?  A trip to the AGO with Ms. Sanderson?  How about a tea party with Mr. Bush and Ms. Kajak?  Those are some of these amazing priceless items up for auction.

33 Days of School

We have just passed the 33rd day of school (according to the JK students I spoke to today) and the activities at Earl Haig are coming in fast and furious.

What’s Coming Up:
October 20th – Cross Country Finals
We have about 17 athletes competing at this meet – A new record for the Eagles.  The meet takes place at Ashbridges Bay.  Please have your child(ren) at school by 8:10am on Monday.
October 18 – Monarch Park 50th anniversary celebrations
October 19 – QSP Campaign Ends
October 23 – Pumpkin Patch
October 23 – Vision and Hearing Clinics

QSP Magazine Sales
We are almost at the $5000 mark.  Well done everyone! The more we sell the more our profit margin increases.  Good news as well because the campaign has been extended to Sunday October 19th.  Please place your magazine renewals on or before the 19th so that any funds raised can be used this school year for our Physical Education program.  Any orders placed after the 19th will count towards next years fundraising goal.

Pumpkin Patch
The annual Pumpkin Patch Planning is in full swing.  Bakers – We Need You!  We are looking for bakers to contribute items that can be sold at the bake sale table.  Please sign up at http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/1015650068079 if you are able to bring something.  All baked goods must be nut free and breakfast type items are preferred.  Please bring the items to the office on 22nd or at the beginning of the Pumpkin Patch on the morning of the 23rd.

Hullabaloo and Silent Auction
This adult focused fundraising event is a silent auction with some pretty amazing items up for bid.  This is the perfect opportunity to meet other parents while supporting your school.  Last year over $7000 in funds were raised and used throughout the school.
