How to Talk to Your Kids About Racism

Our first workshop with Freedom School Toronto took place last week and participants have shared that it was tremendously helpful in better understanding the context of racism in Canada.

Tomorrow (Thursday, the 20th, from 6-8PM), we have another workshop coming up — How to Talk to Your Kids About Racism — that will move from theory into practice for sharing tools with children on how to recognise, challenge, and resist anti-Black racism. Facilitators will provide tips and resources for how to present information and analysis to children in a way that is age appropriate, safe, empowering, and engaging.

All are welcome and you do NOT need to have attended the previous workshop to join this one. Please sign up here.

SAC Meeting Tomorrow

We hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy the lovely weather these days. If you’re able to tear yourself away from the great outdoors (or perhaps you have a wifi extender?) we hope you will join us tomorrow at 7:00 PM for our May school advisory council meeting.

At the meeting, we will have a special presentation from our Grade 8 students as they share some of the things they’ve been working on this year. You won’t want to miss it!

Take a look at the full agenda here.

Tomorrow: Anti-Black Racism in Canada

Just a reminder that our first virtual workshop with Freedom School Toronto is coming up tomorrow evening (Friday, May 14th), from 6-8pm.

This first virtual workshop provides foundational knowledge for understanding anti-Black racism in Canada including key terminology, ideological framework, and historical information. The workshop focuses on debunking the myth of the great free north, understanding Canada’s legacies of colonialism and enslavement, and understanding the ways in which anti-Black racism manifests today. Participants will consolidate their knowledge using a transformative Jeopardy game/bingo card. Please sign up here.

We hope to see you there!

P.S. If you’re not able to join us tomorrow, please see this blog post for information about our other two workshops this month.
