Things are a little different this year at Earl Haig PS but one thing that hasn’t changed is the care we parents and caregivers have for our kids as they start their new learning adventure. It is inspiring to see our teachers and administration jump into action as they navigate the new protocols set in motion for the 2020/2021 school year. Our children are enthusiastic and are adapting to masks, distancing, new routines and online learning right out of the gate.

If you’re not familiar with the School Advisory Council (SAC), we are the parent/caregiver group that organizes and runs events throughout the year to bolster community spirit and raise funds to support school needs. We meet with the administration and teacher representatives to discuss issues like facilities, student concerns, special events, and academic issues.

This will be a year unlike any other for students, teachers and the administration. Now more than ever we want to come together to create a successful, safe and caring environment here in our Earl Haig community.

This past spring as our children dove into remote learning the SAC also went online. The result was that we had more participants that ever before take part in our meetings. The voices of every parent and caregiver are valued as part of the School Advisory Council so please log in and join the conversation!

You do not have to take on an official role with the SAC to participate in meetings. Whether your child is learning in the classroom or taking classes online you are part of the Earl Haig family. We will have to be innovative and proactive this year to create opportunities for our children to thrive and connect. Your input matters and can effect real change.

Our first meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, September 30th from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Log-in info will be shared soon — keep an eye on this space or on our Facebook event page.

Become a member of the 2020/2021 Earl Haig School Advisory Council

You don’t need to be on the Council to attend meetings: everyone is welcome! However, Council does require some executive roles to be filled. Executives should plan to attend the majority of Council meetings. We meet most months (skipping December and March) alternating between Tuesday and Wednesday nights. If you are able to join, the executive the positions are for one-year terms, elected at the September meeting. You can read more about our council positions here.

If you are interested in an elected role, please fill out a Self-Nomination form, and (in true Covid-life style) take a snapshot of your completed printed form (or fill it out electronically) and email back to us by September 29th.

Earl Haig School Advisory Council depends on family, guardians, and the Earl Haig community to assist with planning, organizing, and staffing our events. We would love to have you join in the fun, so please think about your interests and time availability and contact us soon.

If you have any questions about council please send us an email.
