RALLY for Education

Wondering what you can do to stand up for our children’s education? Members of our TDSB community are meeting in front of the MaRS building on College St at 11:30am tomorrow (Saturday, April 6th) to walk together to Queen’s Park for the Rally for Education. Join us!

Meeting agenda

Just a reminder that our April School Advisory Council meeting is taking place on Tuesday, April 9th (7-8:30pm) in the music room. If you’d like to attend, take a look at the agenda for the evening. There will be an update on PlayEH! and a discussion about the new budget for Education and the possible ramifications of the cuts that will follow.

Childcare is available and, as usual, Principal Root will be on hand to give a school update and answer questions. (Feel free to send him questions in advance, before noon on Tuesday.)

Spring Cleaning for a Cause: Eco Eagles and Play EH are Teaming Up!

Spring is in the air and if you’ve been binge watching Marie Kondo it’s time to purge the things that no longer bring you joy!

Eco Eagles and Play EH! are joining forces to help the environment and recycle items to raise money for the playground revitalization.

How you can make a difference

Before April 30th:

Drop off cell phones, smartphones, rechargeable cell phone batteries, pagers and accessories (charges, headsets, headphones) into the drop box located in the school’s front hall.

Donate bags of clothing, shoes (tied together), belts, purses, hand bags and soft bags throughout the month of April.

Between April 1-18th:

We will also be collecting plastic bags for recycling.

How Eco Eagles are supporting Play EH!

For every device recycled our school will earn $1 and the school in Ontario with the highest number of devices recycled per student will win an additional $500.

Clothing donation bags will be weighed and Earl Haig will be paid the global market price for used textiles.

Keep it going!

Students of Earl Haig will continue their annual spring clean up tradition outside too! Please save the dates and join us for:

  • City of Toronto Neighbourhood Clean up on April 26
  • Shoreline Clean Up on May 10

There are lots of ways to help and teach our students to be citizens of the environment. Consider hosting a Garage Sale on June 9th (the Danforth East Garage Sale day) and donate your proceeds to Play EH – perhaps the kids have some toys to purge! Contact PlayEH2019@gmail.com for Garage Sale signage and we would be happy to help you promote your sale location!

Updates!

Spring is in full swing at Earl Haig PS! There’s a lot of great things in the works and we will have so much to share with you over the coming weeks. A few updates to start us off:

Spring Festival: Help us make it great!

We are still looking for volunteers to help us with our SUPERSIZED Spring Festival on Thursday, June 6th (rain date of June 13th)!

Whether you can spare an hour (or more) volunteering at one of the stations, or you can help with the prep work before the festival, please consider lending a hand! Money raised from our Spring Festival goes towards supporting our Play EH! playground revitalization project and will benefit our kids for years to come!

Our next volunteer planning meeting will take place Sunday, April 14th (8pm to 9:30pm). If you’re interested in volunteering — whether you can make the meeting or not — please email our Festival Organizer, Jen Barnes for all the info (and the address).

Marlies update

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts Earl Haig will not be organizing a Marlies outing this year.  Look out for our ice time next year!

April SAC meeting

Last but not least – please join us on Tuesday, April 9th from 7pm to 8:30pm in the school Music Room (basement) for our next School Advisory Council meeting. Childcare will be available.

At the meeting, you’ll hear about our many FUN upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, get an update on our PlayEH! project, hear school news from Principal Root, and – as always – you’re encouraged to share any ideas or suggestions you may have. You don’t need to be on the council to attend – everyone is welcome!

Do you have any questions for the Principal? Feel free to send them his way in ahead of the meeting using this quick and easy form

Look forward to seeing you there!

P.S. Make sure to subscribe to our Google Calendar and stay on top of it all!
