October School Council Meeting

get-involved-make-a-difference

Please join us on Tuesday, October 16th from 7pm to 8:30pm in the school Music Room (basement) for our next School Council meeting. (Please note, childcare is available.)

At the meeting, you’ll learn about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, hear updates from Principal Root, and you’re encouraged to share any ideas or suggestions you may have. You don’t need to be on the council to attend – everyone is welcome!

Do you have any questions for the Principal? Send them his way in advance of the meeting using this quick and easy form.

Hope to see you there!

Pumpkin Patch!

Whether you’re pro- pumpkin spice latte or not, October is here and Earl Haig School Council is gearing up for our upcoming Pumpkin Patch fundraiser!

Please save the date! Thursday, October 25th (from 7:30am on in the Kindergarten play yard) to buy a HUGE pumpkin and a seasonal baked good or two. There will be jars of honey available (a limited supply) and we’re offering FREE coffee again this year to help you start your morning off on the right foot.

Our generous pumpkins are $7 each and are the perfect blank slate for your pumpkin carving artistry. You can pay for your pumpkin in the morning at the sale (cash only!) and leave it in the Kindie yard (labelled with your name) until you take it home at the end of the day.

Call for volunteers!

Interested in helping out? We will need bakers to donate a breakfast friendly baked good (please, no nuts!). Bakers can bring their yummy goods to the office the day before or to the Kindergarten yard the morning of the sale.

We will also need volunteers to help unload the pumpkins first thing in the morning and to help with sales during the event (7:30am – 12:30pm). To volunteer for day-of help, please sign up here or email us at earlhaigschoolcouncil@gmail.com.

Earl Haig Happenings This Week

Say cheese!

Picture Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 25th! We hope your student smiles for the camera (and for all of the relatives and family friends who may receive the school photo).

The pictures are being done by BrightPics again this year and they share these tips:

  • Wear bright and solid coloured clothing for best results.
  • Feel free to send a comb so that they can style their hair before the photo.
  • The photographers are trained to reduce glass glare.
  • Don’t worry if the students have any scratches or blemishes on photo day, there is an option for retouching if you place an order.

pizzaCurriculum Night

Wednesday, September 26th is Curriculum Night at Earl Haig P.S. and it’s a great opportunity to see your child’s classroom, meet the teacher, hear about learning opportunities and field trips, and ask general program questions.

Remember to fill out this form for a pizza dinner and send it back in your student’s backpack by tomorrow morning (along with payment), if you’d like the School Council to take care of dinner that night. We cannot accept walk-in orders, so please get those pizza forms back to the office tomorrow morning!

Orange Shirt Day

every-child-matters-logo_orig

Earl Haig P.S. will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 28th. This is a chance to discuss the harm of the residential school system in Canada to Indigenous children and communities and its ongoing effect on survivors.

Please consider sending your child to school in an orange shirt (or other piece of orange clothing) on Orange Shirt Day.

For more information, or to read Phyllis (Jack) Webstad’s story about having her new orange shirt taken from her as a young child, please visit the Every Child Matters website.

Have a great week, everyone!
