Call for Spring Festival Volunteers!

Spring may not be in the air quite yet, but (possibly as a winter coping mechanism) we are getting the ball rolling to make this year’s Earl Haig PS Spring Festival the best one yet!

The Spring Festival (which will take place Thursday, June 6th) is a big fun fair and BBQ in the school yard that raises money for school initiatives.  It’s tons of fun and a great community building event that the kids absolutely LOVE – but it needs lots of parent support to exist!

This year, our volunteer need is even greater as we’re planning a SUPERSIZED Spring Festival to raise money for Play EH!.  We’ve got fun new activity stations planned, as well as many old favourites, so there are lots of opportunities to make a difference.  Whether you can spare an hour (or more!) volunteering at one of the stations, or you can help with the prep work, please consider lending a hand!

The first volunteer planning meeting will take place Sunday March 3rd at 8pm (and there will be snacks!). If you’re interested in volunteering — whether you can make the meeting or not — please email the Festival Organizer, Jen Barnes for all the info.

Happenings This Week

Principal for a Day

In case you see your child hunting around in between couch cushions or breaking into their piggy banks over the next couple of days, rest assured it’s all for a good cause!

Play EH! is having a draw this Wednesday the 27th for “Principal for a day” (to take place on Thursday, February 28th).  Students who want a chance to win need to bring in $2 to enter their name in the draw. Two names will be drawn — one for the morning and one for the afternoon. As an added bonus, Principal Root & Vice-Principal Ng will take the students out for lunch together!

All proceeds from the draw will go to Play EH!

Pink Shirt Day

Bullying is a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and online. Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness of these issues, as well as raise funds to support programs that foster children’s healthy self-esteem.

Earl Haig PS will be participating in Pink Shirt Day this Wednesday, February 27th — please encourage your child to wear pink that day to take a stand against bullying and to stand up for their peers.
