Earl Haig Happenings

We have A LOT going on at Earl Haig right now:

Picture Day + Curriculum Night

First up, just a reminder that tomorrow is both Picture Day for students (say cheese!) and Curriculum Night for families.

If you ordered pizza slices from the SAC, please come to the lunchroom between 5:15 and 6:25pm to pick up your food. Classroom visits take place at 6:30pm (and again at 7:00pm) and they are a great opportunity to see your child’s classroom, meet the teacher, hear about learning opportunities and ask general questions.

On curriculum night, please sign up for your Class Rep email list and please consider taking on the role of Parent Classroom Rep for your child’s class. The sign-up sheet should be available in your child’s classroom (but if not, ask your teacher!)  The Parent Classroom Rep would forward messages from SAC, the SAC Grade reps and Student council to their fellow classroom parents.  This would help us ensure that all of our students are hearing about Fun Friday’s, bake sales, movie nights, etc.  Parent Classroom Reps could also aid the Council Grade Reps to advocate for issues that are important to the specific age groups through email feedback. It’s a great way to get involved with only a minimal time requirement.

Earl Haig P.S. Terry Fox Community Walk

All are welcome to walk with the students this Thursday, September 26th. We will meet at 9am in the West Yard. Students are welcome to bring a toonie donation for The Terry Fox Foundation.

Terry Fox Run

Orange Shirt Day

Earl Haig P.S. will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Monday, September 30th. This is a chance to discuss the harm of the residential school system in Canada to Indigenous children and communities and its ongoing effect on survivors.

Consider sending your child to school in an orange shirt (or other piece of orange clothing) on Orange Shirt Day. For a short list of resources for children, please consider this list provided by a local East End business, Old’s Cool General Store. All resources listed were created by indigenous people.

For more information about Orange Shirt Day, or to read Phyllis (Jack) Webstad’s story about having her new orange shirt taken from her as a young child, please visit the Every Child Matters website.

Whew! That should be everything — sorry for all the scrolling!

Curriculum Night Pizza

Half of a pepperoni pizza in takeout box

Curriculum Night is coming up on Wednesday, September 25th, and we know it’s always a rush to feed the kids and get back to school. Let us help!

Blue pizza order forms went out this week in backpacks. If you haven’t sent it in yet, please send in the filled-out order form tomorrow morning to your teacher with your payment and then, on Curriculum Night, just pick up your pizza (between 5:15 to 6:25pm) and eat with friends in the lunchroom. Kids can hit the playground before heading up to classrooms for the first Meet the Teacher/Visit the Classroom session at 6:30pm. (For those with multiple Earl Haig students – there is a second round of classroom visits at 7:00pm).

Hope to see you on Curriculum Night – come hungry!

Please hand in one form per family.
