Calling All Cupcake Bakers!

baker-valentine-red

We need bakers for our annual Valentine’s Day cupcake sale on Thursday, February 14th. All shapes, colours, and flavours of cupcakes are welcome. Feel free to get creative – the fancier they are, the faster they seem to sell!

All baked goods must be nut free. Please be sure to include a note with any further dietary considerations (i.e. wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free).

Please bring your cupcakes to the office on February 13th or the morning of the 14th.

The bake sale will be taking place after lunch and each delicious cupcake will cost $1. Proceeds will go towards Play EH! and other school initiatives.

Thank you!

Turning Up the Heat on Play EH!

Everyone is getting behind Earl Haig’s playground revitalization and we have some great news about it to share on this very cold day! Your School Advisory Council has approved a $5,000 contribution to Play EH!  — turning the heat up to $40,000 on our fundraising thermometer!

Did you know that “only 5% of children ages 5-17 are active enough during the school day to meet healthy activity level guidelines for 1 hour of moderate to vigorous activity a day” (source: OPAL)….lets get our students inspired to get active with a new climbing wall and monkey bars! Click here to see our preliminary playground design for Play EH!

Visit the Play EH! team in the front foyer this Friday morning 7AM – 9AM to warm up with free coffee and to purchase tickets for A Musical Night Out. We would be happy answer any Play EH! questions you have. (You can also take a look at some FAQ’s we’ve posted online, too.)

Building Better Schools

Have your voice be heard on the need for proper funding for our school system.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario has set up a page that asks parents/teachers/public to advocate for increased funding for public education instead of the cuts that the government is planning. The provincial government is currently working on their first provincial budget and we believe it’s important that MPPs and in particular the Minister of Education hear directly from constituents regarding funding for public education.

Clicking the link above will take you to a pre-written letter that will be sent on your behalf to your MPP – so simple! We are all acutely aware of the needs our own aging school building requires and of course, proper funding for teachers, support staff and resources to help our children as they learn is vital.

For more information and to email or call your MPP and/or the Minister of Education please visit: www.buildingbetterschools.ca/funding
